West Bengal

Bengal has been land of Yadava's for time immemorial. No surprise that the 1st Chief Minister of West Bengal was a Yadav, Shri Praffulla Chandra Ghosh. In Bengal Yadav's have two main sub branches: Gwal & Sadgope. They use following surname's: Ghosh, Pal, Ghoshal, Burman, Bahari, Barik, Dhali etc. Later few of them started refering them as Kayasthya. But according to Historian Dr. Rajbali Pandey they are Yadav's only since Kayasthya in itself is not a caste but it refers to one's occupation.

Bengal has been the part of Yadav kingdom's of Yaduvanshi Nand dynasty & Yaduvanshi Gupta dynasty. After Yaduvanshi Gupta dynasty became week, the Pal dynasty took over. Pal (or Pala) dynasty was started by Gopal- a cowherd Yadav man of Bengal. Pal or Pala means the protector. They were Kshatriya of Chandravanshi lineage. Few of the King's of Pal dynasty embraced Buddhism architecture & way of life.

The Pal dynasty under Dharampal & Devapala ruled from Afghanistan to the present day Burma.

The Pala Empire can be considered as the golden era of Bengal. Never had the Bengali people reached such height of power and glory to that extent. Palas were responsible for the introduction of Mahayana Buddhism in Tibet, Bhutan and Myanmar. It was during the Pala period Bengal became the main center of Buddhist as well as secular learning. Universities like Nalanda, Vikramshila and Paharpur flourished and prospered under the patronage of the Pala rulers. Dharmapal and Devapal were two great patrons of Buddhism, secular education and culture. The Palas had extensive trade as well as influence in south-east Asia. This can be seen in the sculptures and architectural style of the Sailendra Empire (present-day Malaya, Java, Sumatra).

The Burman dynasty ruler's of Bengal were also Yadav's. The Burman dynasty considered their lineage from the Yadav dynasty of Singhpur, Punjab.

The Bengali Yadav's, Ghosh's of Bengal have been very active in Yadav Mahasabha activities since 1919. The prominent Yadav's of Bengal are Shri Sudhir Kumar Ghosh, Shri Thakur Das Ghosh, Shri Banke Bihari Ghosh, Shri Sarat Chandra Ghosh, Shri Nabadwip Chandra Ghosh, Rasa Bihari GhoshMohit Mohan Ghosh, Alakhram Rawat & others.
